स्काउट शब्द का अर्थः-                            गुप्तचर भेदिया जासूस फौज में जो चुस्त चालाक साहसी हो रास्ता बनाने नदी नालों पर पुल बनाने संकेतों द्वारा संवाद भेजने घायलों की प्राथमिक चिकित्सा करने तथा शत्रु की गति-विधियों का पता अपने अधिकारियों को देने का काम करते है उन्हें ‘‘स्काउट ’’  कहा जाता है। यह देश भक्त, बहादुर, फुर्तीले, सक्रिय, बुद्धिमान, अग्रमामी तथा दूरदर्शी    नागरिकों का निर्माण करने वाली संस्था है। उत्तम नागरिकता की पाठशाला है। खाली समय का सदुपयोग एक शिक्षिक आन्दोलन है एक स्वैच्छिक अशासकीय संगठन है एक खेल, किन्तु शिक्षा प्रद खेल है प्रसन्नतादायक वातावरण है। व्यक्ति का चारित्रिक विकास, स्वास्थ्य और शारिरिक विकास कौशल का विकास कर समाज सेवा और ईश्वर के प्रति कर्तव्य बोध कराने वाली अद्वितीय संस्था. Scout Patrols Each Scout Troop consists of two or more Patrols of six to eight boys. The main object of the Patrol system is to give real responsibility to as many boys as possible. Scout uniform                                           The Scout Uniform is very like the uniform worn by my men when I commanded the South Africa Constabulary. They knew what was comfortable, serviceable and a good protection against the weather. So Scouts have much the same uniform. With a few minor alterations the original Scout uniform has met the ideas of Scouts around the world and has been universally adopted. Of course, in extreme climates it has to be modified to suit the the seasons, but on the whole the different nations in the temperate climates are dressed uniformly alike.
